Annual Children’s Feast in Pikangikum December 12, 2015

On December 12th, Mikinakoos Children’s Fund arranged the Annual Children’s Feast in the northern Ontario First Nations community of Pikangikum. We would like to thank the Chief and Council of Pikangikum for letting us host the feast within the community, and helping us to organize the event. We were able to prepare the turkey feast with help from dedicated community members Geraldine Peters and her children, as well as Lola Suggashie, and Victoria Quill. We were also able to utilize the Eenchokay Birchstick School kitchen, in order to cook some of our 26lb turkeys – Thank you to Principal Kurt MacRae!

Mikinakoos would like to thank Matthew Strang in reciting a prayer to open the feast – Thank you Matthew. The event was a huge success, gathering over 200 Pikangikum community members; children were eagerly racing to the fruit table, taking bananas by the bunch, as community elders were also present at the event. At the feast, Mikinakoos handed out several suitcases full of new and hand-made baby clothes to any families who needed them, and by the end of the night, even the suitcases were gone! We want to thank our generous sponsors Morgan Fuels, SkyCare, and the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority, for making our event possible, and to all of our donors as well. The sponsorship and donations allowed us to provide a fresh, warm, and nutritious meal to families right before the holidays!

On Saturday November 28th, 2015, at the Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship in Thunder Bay, Kim Erickson presented a viewing of her music video "Full Fathom Five" from her recent album ‘The Raven’s Wing’. In support of Mikinakoos Children’s Fund, donations were accepted at the door and we graciously thank all who donated and came out for the music video viewing!
