Emily Shandruk

Executive Director

Emily's love for philanthropy started when she worked for the Arthritis Society in Vancouver where she fundraised almost $10,000 and ran a marathon in Athens, Greece in support of research. Her path to becoming the Executive Director for the Mikinakoos Children's Fund was guided by many other charity and event-related roles, with the main impetus being working with causes that meant something to her personally. She has been a part of Mikinakoos since the summer of 2019 and is thrilled with its current growth and the potential that this has for working in partnership with additional communities. She was born in Yellowknife, NWT, and raised in Thunder Bay. She has earned an Undergraduate Degree from the University of Manitoba in Criminology and a Master of Arts Degree in Conflict Management from Royal Roads University with a specialization in Organizational Development. While supporting Mikinakoos, she is also a Sessional Instructor in the Faculty of Business Administration at Lakehead University, focusing on Conflict Management and Negotiation, she supports work done with Diversity Thunder Bay and Leadership Thunder Bay, assists with projects at the Centre for Education and Research on Aging and Health (CERAH) and is on the Board with Precious Bundles Children’s Clothing Assistance Program in Thunder Bay.
