Marketing & Database Coordinator
Mikinakoos Children's Fund
About Mikinakoos Children's Fund
Mikinakoos means “Little Turtle” in the Ojibwe language. In many First Nations stories, the earth was created on the back of the turtle, which provided stability, patience, and care to the people. The organization was created to address poverty in the region.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for First Nations children in remote northwestern Ontario while meeting their immediate physical needs for food, clothing, and basic amenities.
Since its inception in 2014, Mikinakoos has provided food and warm clothing to several hundred children living in the north. Working with community members to address their needs is vital to our program's success. Mikinakoos works in coordination primarily with the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) and is committed to working with the 33 First Nations communities SLFNHA supports in Northern Ontario.
Mikinakoos Children's Fund is a registered charity under the Canada Revenue Agency.
